The Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is a magic school in United States of America, located northeast of the country. It is one of the most important magical schools in the world. Founded between 1620 and 1634 by a witch and a muggle, Isolt Sayre and James Steward, the school has a reputation for being one of the most democratic and least elitist of all major schools of magic institutions.
Their students are divided into 4 different houses, just like Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Ilvermorny Houses are Wampus, Horned Serpent, Thunderbird and Pukwudgie.
Ilvermorny was founded in the seventeenth century by an Irish witch and a muggle, Isolt Sayre and James Steward. They started with only teaching their two adopted children at home. But over time they would reach much more students.
Initially, every family had ideas about what a school of magic must be like based on Hogwarts, so they insisted that Ilvermorny should have four houses. They soon abandoned the idea of putting their names to their houses, as founders, each chose their favorite magical creature. The eldest son Chadwick, a smart but somewhat temperamental guy, chose the Thunderbird, a bird that can generate storms by just flying. The youngest, stubborn but loyal son, Jack Webster, chose the Wampus, a magical feline similar to a panther, fast, strong and practically impossible to kill. The favorite magical creature for Isolt was the Horned Serpent she had met in a nearby lake. Representing the only muggle family, James Steward, was not able to identify his house with a magical creature. Finally, he chose Pukwudgie because of the stories that his wife Isolt had told him of her old friend William always made him laugh.
Battle of Ilvermorny
When Gormlaith Gaunt, the evil aunt of Isolt, discovered that she had hidden in North America after stealing her wand, she immediately departed from Europe in seek of vengeance. On reaching the continent she waited for the night to come to launch a powerful curse in Parseltongue.
Gormlaith began attacking the house, cursing against the walls and windows. But she did not know until that moment that the couple had adopted two children, Chadwick and Webster Boot. Both woke up and ran outside to face the witch, but she was too powerful for them.
Cries of the newborn twins woke the couple Isolt and James. Isolt, the witch, took her wand without knowing that this would not be enough to help her two teenage children confronting the powerful old Gormlaith. Meanwhile, James ran to calm babies.
But Gormlaith was too powerful and forced Isolt, Chadwick and Webster Boot to stay still at the back of the house. The wicked witch moved for James and the twins after capturing Isolt and her two sons. Then William, a Pukwudgie, appeared and quickly used one of his poisons against Gormlaith Gaunt who froze in seconds after the poison William applied on his arrows reacted with dark magic.
During the celebrations, William brought his entire family to school. And he started to serve as a security guard and helped in maintenance of the school beginning from that day.
Violation of Warlock’s Statute of Secrecy
During the eighteenth century, one alumni of Ilvermorny, Dorcus Twelvetrees, revealed the location of the school, among other data relating to the magic community to a nomaj called Bartholomew Barebone. However, it turned out that Bartholomew was descendant of a Tracker, and transfered all the information he received from Dorcus to the noMaj community, including the address of Ilvermorny, leading to one of the largest breaches ever on the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, and also on the passage of Act Rappaport.
By the 1920s, Ilvermorny had been flourishing for more than two centuries and was widely regarded as one of the largest centers of education for the magical world. As a result of their common education, all witches and wizards graduating from Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry are proficient in using their wands.
